Hardwood Products For Your Projects

At Catale Sawmill you can rest assured that you're buying sustainably sourced, quality lumber from our finest trees right here in northeast Oklahoma. We offer a variety of different types of fresh-cut hardwood including White Oak, Red Oak, Hickory, Elm and Walnut in multiple cuts that you can read more about below:

Rough-sawn (rough-cut) lumber is milled on a bandsaw that results in an unfinished wood with rough edges-- basically, untreated lumber cut into planks. And since it hasn’t undergone any processes, it’s stronger and holds more moisture than finished lumber.

This lumber hasn’t shrunk to its final size which leaves more possibilities for planning and smoothing. It is commonly used in covered or exposed beams if your goal is a rustic, old-country style. Rough-sawn lumber is also used for picture frames, and outdoor furniture such as tables and chairs, and swing sets.

Timber beams are wood specially cut to adapt for building purposes. Beams made of wood are used for many reasons: They are safe, non-toxic, durable, and easy to work with. Timber beams are also cheaper than metal beams and are visually appealing.

If durability is your priority in building your home or a structure, hardwood timber beams are the best choice, stronger and much longer-lasting than softwood. These beams are designed for structural components such as horizontal beams, trusses, and porch posts.

Live-edge slabs are hardwood ‘slabs’ that showcase the natural beauty of the live wood. Form and function combined, its edges feature the outer trunk of the tree when it was still alive.

In creating these beautiful wood pieces, we select interesting knots and grain patterns. The logs are then live-sawn, done to maximize the breadth and length of the wood.

A live-edge slab is a perfectly workable material for creative work. It’s used to create distinct furniture like kitchen countertops, bars, tabletops, shelves, cutting boards, and benches. Different fixtures of these live-edge slabs are incorporated with metal or wood. The possible combinations that you can work with are so many!

If you frequently light your fireplace or wood stove, you’ll know firewood is good when it burns hot, slow, steady, and clean.  These characteristics are owing to two factors: density and moisture content of a wood. The denser and drier the wood, the better. These properties are natural to hardwoods and make them the best wood fuels.

Hardwoods need to be seasoned or dried to reduce it's moisture. You can tell if the wood is properly seasoned when the wood looks faded, has splits on its ends, or makes a ‘clink’ sound when thrown on each other.
